Announcement: Online Class on Canine Behavioral Disorders
Hi all,
Big news! I’m excited to announce that starting on December 1st, I will be teaching a six-week online class through the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy about behavioral disorders in dogs. The class is open to anyone who wants to sign up, so feel free to join us if this is a topic that interests you!
You can sign up for a silver-level spot if you want to participate in class by doing the homework assignments, taking part in discussions, asking questions, etc. Or, you can sign up as an auditor (bronze level) if you just want to observe and have access to the lecture material and forums.
Check out the course page on FDSA’s website for details on what topics we’ll be covering, or if you want to sign up:
BH401: Normal, or Not? Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Behavioral Disorders
ALSO, an added bonus! I’ve put together a short quiz to test your knowledge of behavior issues in dogs. If you take the quiz, you’ll automatically be entered for a chance to win a free bronze class or webinar through the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy – just make sure to provide your contact info for the FSDA mailing list, when prompted at the end of the quiz.
If you have questions about the class, feel free to let me know! I would be delighted to see some of you there. 🙂

Will there be CEUs available for this class, specifically for CCPDT?
That’s a great question! It should qualify, yes. If it’s something you (or others!) are interested in, I can submit an application to get it approved. Stay tuned! I’ll let you know once I get an official word one way or the other. 🙂
Hi Linda – just wanted to let you know that the class has been approved for 6 CEUs through CCPDT (5 behavior, and 1 training). If you have any other questions, just let me know!
Will this course be available on the bronze level for later viewing? I will be out of the country for 3 weeks, but would be very interested in the material.
As long as you sign up during the registration period, yes! You’ll have access to all of the class material once you get back from your trip. The forums stay up for about two months after the class ends, and lecture materials stay in your library for a full year (or forever, if you continue signing up for classes every now and then).
BUT, you would need to register before December 15th, since that’s the last day for registration for this term. After that, there’s no way to purchase the class “after the fact,” so you would need to wait for it to come around on the schedule again sometime next year.
Are the classes all self-paced or are you presenting them at a particular time/ day of the week?
The class is self-paced, so no need to commit to any particular times. The lecture material (mostly written, with occasional video examples) will be released over the course of the six-week class – once it’s released, it will be available whenever you want to read it. Homework and discussion questions will be released once or twice a week.
I need help with a bed peeing separation anxiety dog or when crated violently moving the crate around the room in an effort to get free. So far I have only tried calming herbs but not effective. Will your coverage of SA help me
We will spend some time talking about separation anxiety, including treatment strategies and medication options, so it’s certainly possible that you might find the class helpful! Be aware, though, that it’s primarily a class on concepts, with lecture and discussion – not a “how to” class for working your dog through a specific issue.
I used to have a dog with behavioral problems as well. Only the good behaviorist and a ‘dog psychologist’ helped us.
